This Privacy Policy explains how SideQuested.xyz (“SideQuested”, “the Service”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects information when you use our website, web app, profiles, focus sessions, recovery logs, XP systems, leaderboards, and related features.

SideQuested is developed and operated under Elseborne Labs by Niraj Makhare.

By using SideQuested, you agree to the collection and use of information described in this Privacy Policy.


1. What SideQuested Does

SideQuested is a gamified focus-recovery web app. It helps users notice distractions, log what pulled them away, return to their Main Quest, run focus or respawn sessions, earn XP, maintain streaks, and optionally appear on leaderboards.

Because of how the app works, we may process information about your profile, focus activity, recovery logs, quest steps, XP, and app usage.


2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account and Sign-In Information

When you sign in using Google, GitHub, or another supported sign-in service, we may receive information such as:

  • name;
  • email address;
  • profile image;
  • sign-in account ID;
  • basic account details shared by the sign-in service;
  • login/session information needed to keep you signed in.

We use this information to create and secure your account.

2.2 Profile Information

You may provide or generate profile information such as:

  • username;
  • display name;
  • avatar or profile image;
  • bio;
  • default focus duration;
  • level;
  • XP total;
  • streak data;
  • leaderboard-related profile details.

Some profile and leaderboard information may be public or visible to other users, depending on the feature and your settings.

2.3 Main Quest and Quest Step Information

SideQuested may store information you enter about your current goals, including:

  • Main Quest title;
  • Main Quest description;
  • quest steps or subtasks;
  • quest status;
  • completion status;
  • timestamps related to creation, updates, completion, or archiving.

Avoid entering highly sensitive, confidential, or private information into Main Quests or quest steps.

2.4 Distraction and Recovery Information

When you use the “I AM DISTRACTED” or recovery flow, we may collect information such as:

  • distraction category;
  • optional distraction note;
  • what you were supposed to be doing;
  • smallest next action;
  • linked Main Quest or quest step;
  • recovery status;
  • recovery timestamps;
  • XP awarded for recovery.

This information is used to help you return to your Main Quest and track your recovery progress. Detailed distraction notes and personal recovery logs are treated as private account data unless you explicitly choose to make them public through a future feature.

2.5 Focus Session Information

When you start or complete a focus or respawn session, we may collect information such as:

  • session type;
  • session status, such as active, completed, cancelled, or failed;
  • planned focus duration;
  • actual focus minutes;
  • start and end times;
  • linked quest, quest step, or distraction;
  • XP awarded;
  • streak updates;
  • daily focus statistics.

This allows SideQuested to restore timers, sync progress across sessions, calculate XP, and show dashboard activity.

2.6 XP, Leaderboard, and Activity Information

SideQuested may generate and store gamification data such as:

  • XP events;
  • XP total;
  • level;
  • streaks;
  • badges;
  • recovery counts;
  • focus minutes;
  • leaderboard rank;
  • recent activity summaries;
  • daily and weekly stats.

Leaderboard-related information may be publicly visible, including username, display name, avatar, XP, level, streak, weekly XP, weekly focus minutes, weekly recoveries, badges, and rank.

2.7 Device, Technical, and Usage Information

We and our service partners may collect device and usage information such as:

  • browser type;
  • device type;
  • operating system;
  • IP address;
  • approximate region derived from technical data;
  • pages or routes visited;
  • timestamps;
  • error logs;
  • sign-in logs;
  • performance data;
  • cookies, local storage, or similar technologies.

We use this information for security, debugging, analytics, abuse prevention, and service improvement.

2.8 Support Communications

If you contact us, we may collect:

  • provide profile and avatar functionality;

  • detect bugs, abuse, spam, fraud, and security issues;
  • enforce our Terms of Service;
  • comply with legal obligations;
  • develop future features and product improvements.

We do not use private distraction notes or private quest details to publicly shame users. SideQuested is designed to reward recovery, not expose personal struggles.


4. Public and Private Information

Public or Potentially Public Information

Some information may be visible to other users or visitors, especially in profiles and leaderboards. This may include:

  • username;
  • display name;
  • avatar;
  • XP total;
  • level;
  • streaks;
  • leaderboard rank;
  • weekly XP;
  • weekly focus minutes;
  • weekly recoveries;
  • badges;
  • simplified activity summaries if enabled or introduced.

Do not use usernames, display names, avatars, or public profile fields to share private or sensitive information.

Private Account Information

The following are generally treated as private account data:

  • detailed Main Quest history;
  • quest steps;
  • distraction notes;
  • supposed-to-do text;
  • smallest next actions;
  • focus session records;
  • raw XP history;
  • daily user stats;
  • support messages;
  • account email address, except where needed for sign-in or support.

We may process private information to provide the Service, but we do not intend to make it public unless a feature clearly asks for your permission or disclosure is required by law.


5. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share information in the following limited ways:

5.1 Service Partners

We may use third-party service partners for sign-in, hosting, storage, deployment, analytics, logging, email, security, and support. These partners process information only as needed to help us operate the Service.

Examples may include:

  • sign-in services such as Google and GitHub;
  • app hosting, storage, and infrastructure partners;

5.2 Public Features

If you participate in public features, such as leaderboards or public profiles, relevant information may be visible to other users or visitors.

  • focus sessions, recovery logs, XP events, and stats may be kept to preserve your progress history;
  • support messages may be kept for support and recordkeeping;
  • technical logs may be kept for security, debugging, and abuse prevention;
  • backups may retain data for a limited time after deletion from active systems.

You may request account deletion by contacting support@elseborne.com. We may need to retain certain information where required by law or for legitimate security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or backup reasons.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including secure sign-in, access controls, and service partner security features.

However, no internet service is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, uninterrupted access, or that data will never be lost, accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed.

You are responsible for protecting your sign-in account, device, browser session, and login method used with Google, GitHub, or any other sign-in service.


9. International Processing and Transfers

SideQuested may use cloud service partners that store or process information in different countries. By using the Service, you understand that your information may be processed outside your city, state, region, or country of residence.

Where required, we aim to use reasonable safeguards for international transfers of personal information.

SideQuested is not intended for children under 13.

If you are under the age of majority in your country or region, you should use SideQuested only with permission from a parent or legal guardian.

If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child in a way that violates applicable law, we will take reasonable steps to delete or restrict that information.

Where possible, we prefer using aggregated or minimized information for analytics. Aggregated information does not identify you personally.

We do not intend to use private distraction notes or detailed personal quest content for public advertising or public profiling.
